Agora Energiewende
In 2019, the European Green Deal put reducing greenhouse gas emissions and resource use centre-stage to achieve climate-neutrality continent-wide by 2050 at the latest. The Fit for 55 package and the RePowerEU plan upgrade the legislative framework to achieve the climate and energy security objectives set for the end of the decade. The Recovery and Resilience Facility provides Member States with the fiscal firepower to finance additional green investment needs. The implementation of these policies will have significant economic and societal effects, with benefits and opportunities, but also costs that should be understood and addressed in early stages.

Agora Energiewende develops evidence-based strategies for ensuring the success of clean energy and industry transitions around the globe. As independent and non-partisan think tank and policy laboratory, we analyse upcoming challenges, share knowledge with decision-makers and stakeholders and enable a productive exchange of ideas.
Our team is multinational, multidisciplinary, and works across the globe with various partner organisations. This broad network calls for a great amount of organisation and a stable setup. To strengthen the reach and impact of our work we are looking for a:
 
Project Officer EU Green Economy
Brussels-based, full-or part-time role, f/m/d

Your responsibilities include
In this role, you will be part of our 12 people strong EU Team based both in Berlin and Brussels. In collaboration with colleagues from a range of different backgrounds you will work on the following topics:
  •  The economic and societal effects of climate action through labour markets and the cost of living, and the design of policies to ensure a just transition;  
  • The fiscal implications of the transition to climate neutrality at the EU and national levels; 
  • The role of public and private finance in enabling accelerated climate action, in particular opportunities arising from the EU budget and the EU’s Sustainable Finance Agenda.

In the role as Project Officer, your responsibilities will include

  • Contributing to the conceptualization, development and delivery of complex research projects in close collaboration with Agora colleagues; 
  • Developing quantitative tools and datasets for policy analysis;
  • Drafting articles, presentations and reports;    
  • Building partnerships and working closely with network partners in Brussels and throughout Europe; and
  • Contributing to internal strategy development and discussions;

  • A full-time or part-time role with initially a two-year employment contract.
We are looking for
  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (i.e. economics, finance, political sciences);

  • Relevant work experience (up to three years), in areas relating to the macroeconomic, labour market and/or fiscal aspects of the green transition, obtained in an international consulting role or in government, in think tanks, academia or business organisations;

  • Strong data and quantitative skills, with advanced Excel competences., Programming skills are a plus;

  • In-depth understanding of the European economies and EU energy policy, and its main institutions and stakeholders;

  • Ability to deliver high quality work with short deadlines;        

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • A confident, calm, practical and entrepreneurial outlook, with openness to working on diverse challenges and topics; and

  • Full command of the English language in reading and writing; active knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
